From the Asbury Park Press newspaper

With my friend and mentor, Kass Martin

I realize that I have been slacking on my blog posts lately. I have probably been slacking in other areas of my life as well...but that is only because Zumba has taken over! Since I certified in December, I have started teaching 3 classes a week, and attending 1-2 others. I also have to find time at home to learn and practice new choreography. So basically, I end up doing Zumba at least an hour a day. Sometimes a lot more.

But it is SO worth it!!

I am hoping within the next few weeks to find a space to rent to start some classes that will actually make me some money. Two of my current classes are at the church, where I am not allowed to charge for my services. I don't mind doing it for free, but I do need to start making some money at some point to pay the bills just to be an instructor. Once I get everything squared away, I hope to teach anywhere from 3-5 paying classes a week. Besides being a great workout and super fun, this would really help out financially in our budget. It feels good to have the potential to contribute in a new way.

Saturday I treated myself to an early birthday present with a ticket to the Asbury Park Zumbathon. My teacher from Utah, Kass Martin, was the special guest instructor, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I talked a friend into going with me, since it was going to be a 4-hour drive each way. Well, with the storm that came through Friday night, it ended up taking us over 5 hours to get there. 5 hours of white-knuckled, heart-pounding, teeth-clenching, near-death driving on unplowed interstates. We danced our hearts out with Kass and hundreds of other adoring fans...my idea of a great time!! She was incredibly inspiring and made me remember why I fell in love with Zumba to begin with.

Thank you, Kass, for all you have taught me. And thank you, Zumba, for giving me something to work for.
